Our Story

The LAUNDRY ROOM story starts when I was a child growing up on a farm in Mid Canterbury. My sister and I were taught not only to sew at a young age but with it came a life long love of fabric. We also learnt how to look after our sewing machine, choosing the right fabric for the pattern and the correct sizing of the garment. And most importantly taking your time with sewing and that unpicking is a must to achieve straight lines and a professional looking garment. Years later I became more of a last minute I need something to wear, and I dont need a pattern person using old scarves, bits of fabric to create a unique top to wear out that night usually inspired from overseas fashion magazines.

Some of you may remember about ten years ago I had a small business selling tshirts with air new zealand baggage tags and airport codes. I guess LAUNDRY ROOM is the newer, more grown up version.

LAUNDRY ROOM by rebecca scott sells a small range of versatile, affordable, stylish silk & silk mix tops and dresses from fabric hand sourced in Vietnam.

Lucky for me I get to design the range of tops and dresses, the patterns are made in New Zealand and then I travel to Vietnam where I hand souce every piece of fabric to then get made into garments. I know all my fabric suppliers, they are all young women who love fabric as much as I do. Yen and her small team make all my garments at her house and I have spent some time with them helping them with the sewing. There is a whole street which sells buttons so I love to spend time here as well. The Vietnamese really love their sewing and with such amazing fabrics to choose from I can see why. All the silk fabric is produced in Vietnam

LAUNDRY ROOM tops and dresses are created with only small amounts of fabric, so there are few produced which helps keep them unique. They are designed to be trans seasonal and simple in design with vivacious and bold fabrics. The designs are diverse, ageless and we are not dictated to by trends.
